A study of the different types and uses of insecticide/acaricides on farm animals in the Greater Accra Region

The types of insecticides and acaricides used on farm animals in the Greater Accra Region (Ghana) were studied to determine measures adopted by farmers and their effectiveness in the control of ectoparasites. From the 20 different types encountered, 8 (40) belonged to the organophosphates, 6 (30) synthetic pyrethroids, 3 (15) chlorinated hydrocarbons and 3 (15) were carbamates. The most widely used brands were Geminatox, Delnar, Bacdip, and Cooper's Louse Powder. Popular modes of applicaton on livestock were dipping hand-dressing, spraying and pour-on.
