Comparative examinations were carried out according to the following three methods: rectal ultrasonic examination of uterus, measurement of milk progesteron level with enzyme immunoassay /EIA/ and radioimmunoassay /RIA/ methods. The precision of ultrasonic examination proved itself suitable for early pregnancy diagnosis between the 26th-33rd days after fertilization in cows. It can be carried out at any time and place. The early embryonic mortality and the pathologic fluid content of the uterus may dimonish the accuracy of ultrasonic examination. An essentially more accurate result can be obtained by single ultrasonic examination carried out between the 26th-33rd days following fertilization as compared to the method basing itself on progesteron level measurements.
