Digestibility of green grass, hay and silage varieties of different grass plants

The nutrient content and digestibility of grass hays, grass silages, purely sown green grasses /Bromus inermis, Lotus corniculatus, Agropyron repens/ and green mixtures /B. inermis 50 o/o, A. repens 30 o/o, L. corniculatus 20 o/o/ were studied in vivo, in vitro and with the nylon bag method, in a utilization experiment carried out with wethers. The utilization is the best amongst the green grasses of the Hungarian Bromus inermis, Agropyron repens. The utilization of the mixture and Lotus corniculatus can be regarded as mediocre. The total nutrient CV o/o: Hungarian Bromus inermis 5.39, Agropyron repens 11.6, Lotus corniculatus 11.87 and mixture 13.4. The digestibility of hay was found as to be low. The greater raw fibre content of the feeds impaire the digestibility and nutrient value of the raw protein. The lower raw fat content of feeds was accompanied by a worse fat digestibility.
