The food availability and consumption programme of CFNI: Perspective to the year 2000

The key issues in food availability and consumption are discussed. Food and nutrition security depends on developments in areas such as domestic food production, food aid, food safety and protection, food marketing and food expenditure and consumption. It is stated that Intersectoral food and nutrition planning and coordination is essential for success. Specific approaches within the overall strategy include resource mobilization, policies and plans, training, direct consultancy and information systems development. CFNI proposes to continue to provide direct advisory services to its member countries as it seeks to enhance their capacity to promote viable and self-sustaining projects in food and nutrition.
