Pathogenic variability of Erwinia chrysanthemi isolates from corn in Mindanao [Philippines]
1990
Dionio, B.T. | Raymundo, A.D.
Fourteen isolates of Erwinia chrysanthemi, causing bacterial stalk rot of corn, were collected from various localities in Central and Southern Mindanao [Philippines]. Variability in terms of percent infection and percent toppling of pioneer 3208 hybrid was observed. The highest percent infection of 70.9 and percent toppling of 42.0 were obtained with isolates D1. The onset of infection appeared to be a key parameter. For instance, infection started at 4 days after inoculation with isolate D1, 6 days with isolate E2 but infection by many isolates was observed only 40 days after inoculation. A number of isolates did not cause toppling of plants.
