Ischaemum rugosum - some aspects of growth and control
1990
Lubigan, R.T. | Moody, K. (International Rice Research Inst., Los Banos, Laguna (Philippines))
Two experiments conducted at the International Rice Research Institute [Los Banos, Laguna, Philippines] determined the growth and development patterns and response to some herbicides of Ischaemum rugosum Salisb. which is becoming increasingly important under lowland rainfed conditions. I. rugosum produced two types of seeds, those from sessile spikelets (S seeds) and those from pedicelled spikelets (P seeds). Tillering and growth rate of both S and P plants had the same pattern. However, S plants generally had more tillers higher dry matter production, and higher seed production than the P plants. Butachlor gave excellent control of I. rugosum when they were applied as preemergence treatments. Propanil controlled I. rugosum effectively under wetland conditions when it was applied either at the two- or three-leaf stage of the weed
