Etiology of white rot disease of black pepper at Kidapawan, Cotabato [Philippines]

White rot disease of black pepper collected at Kidapawan, Cotabato [Philippines] was found to be caused by a species of Fusarium. The fungus is consistently present in all samples (vines, leaves, and berries). It grows profusely on potato dextrose agar, corn meal agar, and V-5 agar but less profuse on oatmeal agar. Pathogenicity tests showed that Fusarium sp. caused similar symptoms of white rot when inoculated to healthy blackpepper, white rot disease developed 21 days after inoculation.
