Flower-fruit index and yield of Lycopersicon esculentum as affected by two nitrogenous inorganic fertilizers

A fertilization experiment using two nitrogenous inorganic fertilizers on Lycopersicon esculentum was conducted to determine their effects on the flower-fruit index, weight of fruits and yield. A high yield in terms of quantity of harvested fruits per plant was noted in plants treated with urea. The control plots having few number of fruits obtained a high average weight of fruit per plant. There was a slight difference between the effects of urea and ammonium sulfate in enhancing the flower-fruit index of tomato having a mean ratio of 0.84 and 0.86, respectively.
