Physiological changes induced by paclobutrazol in "Delicious" apple

Five-year-old "Delicious" apple trees were treated with 1,000 ppm paclobutrazol applied as foliage spray. The results indicated that the thickness of a leaf and contents of chlorophyll (especially chlorophyll b) increased in paclobutrazol-treated trees. The contents of dry matter, soluble sugars, starch and amino acids were significantly higher in leaves from the treated trees. Treatment had little effect on total protein and decreased markedly potassium content
