Response of phosphorus and Rhizobium culture on grain yield of lentil [Lens culinaris]

Field experiments were carried out at three different locations in Gurdaspur district in Punjab, India during the 1986/87 season to study the effect of phosphorus application (0,20,40, and 60 kg P2O5/ha) and Rhizobium culture on lentil variety L9-12. The grain yield of lentil increased significantly at all levels of P application over control, irrespective of Rhizobium inoculation. The response of P application over control decreased with increasing content of soil P. There was a consistent increase in grain yield with the use of Rhizobium culture at all levels of P applied. The maximum mean yield of 1562 kg grain/ha was recorded with 60 kg P2O5/ha treatment on lentil inoculated with Rhizobium, which produced 13 kg grain yield/kg P applied with a return of 13 rupees (Rs) invested in fertilizer
