Wheat production in Paraguay has grown considerably in the past decade. Leaf blotch epidemics caused by the septoria, helminthosporium, and bacterial complex occur irregularly due to the country's geographical location and weather conditions. Leaf blotch by Septoria tritici only appears in low temperature years and is restricted to the southern part of the country. Septoria nodorum epidemics are more regular. Resistance from winter wheats such as Kavkaz and Aurora have made it possible to develop several advanced lines possessing improved septoria resistance
