Some major characteristics of wilt and non-wilt diseases of oil palm and coconuts with emphasis on spear rot
1991
Griffith, R. (Ministry of Food Production, Marine Exploitation, Forestry and the Environment, Port of Spain (Trinidad and Tobago))
The paper analyses some fundamental aspects of the symptomatology of wilt and non-wilt diseases of oil palms and coconuts in an attempt to elucidate the limits of expression of spear rot diseases based on the African reports. It indicates that symptomatology is not the equivalent of taxonomy for palm diseases since many diseases are not always of a monoetiological nature. In this regard, attention is also paid to the effects of the disturbed pathosystem in introduced varieties of oil palms to the New World.
