Contamination of aflatoxin in peanut and its management
1988

Quantity of aflatoxin is ranged from 0 to 22 ppb. This variation is also caused by quality of harvest, storage and handling. The other test showed the different quantity of aflatoxin in different parts of kernel. The accumulation of toxin is predominant in the embryo a toxin content of 274 ppb, whereas seed coat possessed only 9.5 ppb. In some peanut varieties the aflatoxin accumulation was low, though, the quantity of A. flavus was quite high. Some peanut varieties such as ICGS-39, (MGS7 Chi Robut 33-1) 5-2, and HYQ (CG) S-32 were found to be resistant to the A. flavus infection in laboratory scale. Besides, A. flavus propagules in soil played a very important role on toxin contamination, the more the propagules the more the toxin accumulated in kernels harvested from infested field.
