Trinidad has for decades experienced low plantain production and this may be in part due to susceptibility of plaintain plants to the most damaging insect pest Cosmopolites sordidus. Infestation levels in Trinidad are not very alarming but yields are negatively affected. An integrated approach to control is suggested and recent chemical recommendations from the wider Caribbean Region are discussed. A number of minor pests are associated with Musa spp., the most significant being banana thrips Franklinella insulas and Chaetauo thrips signipennis; fruit scaring beetles, Colaspis; and pegong bees Trigona spp.
