Argues that the seasonality of rainfall and hence forage growth and availability of some agricultural by-products make it imperative that programmes for effective pasture management and feed conservation form an integral part of livestock management. Hay making in the humid tropics is difficult and silage can be easily done and is recommended. Cane is easily ensiled in the dry season. When its nutritional content is at its best. Options for effective feeding include: grouping animals according to physiological stage, co-grazing different species at a particular physiological stage and supplementation with additional concentrate feed.
