Inheritance of stem characteristics in crosses of the Yugoslav varieties and lines of beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.)

In Yugoslavia there are a lot of genotypes of bean which differ in many characteristics. The present genetic variation makes possible to begin bean breeding program. Before that, it is necessary to determine a way of inheritance of some more important traits of bean. In this paper the inheritance of certain stem bean characteristics are reported. In crosses of three Yugoslav varieties and two lines the earliness proved to be dominant and superdominant. High plant is dominant and superdominant in relation to low one. Thick stem dominates over the thin and more branches over fewer, respectively. The inheritance of nodes number was intermediate or dominant. Higher formed pods are dominant over low formed ones.
