A three-year field experiment with fertilization of lucerne was conducted on alluvial soil in Macedonia (Yugoslavia). The soil properties in the layer 0 - 20 cm were: pH in n KCl - 5.15, availability of P2O5 and K2O in soil was moderate. The variants of fertilization were the following: O, N, P, K, NP, NK, PK, NPK. There were used the following fertilizers: 100 sgs N (calcium ammon nitrate), 100 kg P2O5 (super-phosphate), 100 kg K2O (40% potassium salt). The results or P is very pronounced. According to the formula Gericke - Pfarre in average 1 kg N gives 14.99 kgs, 1 kg P2O5 - 50,89 kg and 1 kg K2O - 13.74 kg of green mass. In the stem of lucerne the fertilizers increased the crude protein by 11%, and alone NP by 14.1%. In our conditions P-fertilizers showed the best effect on the yields and quality of the lucerne. For fertilization of the lucerne the following quantities are recommended: in the first year 50 - 100 kg N, 100 kg P2O5 and 100 kg K2O. In the following years, only PK in the spring before the beginning of vegetation.
