Morphological characteristics of epiphysis of ewes in various periods of reproductional cycle

Morphological characteristics of epiphysis of ewes were studied throughout the reproduction cycle. During sexual cycle the average size of epiphysis is largest during oestrus: 116.25 cmm, and the weight on the average is 0.07 g. - During the first 20 days of gravidity the average size of epiphysis is 132.01 cmm, thereafter it becomes smaller and from day 100 to day 110 of gravidity its size is 95.93 cmm. After that it again increases to reach 112.54 cmm at the end of gravidity period. - During gravidity the weight of epiphysis gradually diminishes from day 10 to day 100 when it comes down to the lowest value (0.048g), and thereafter it is increased, reaching 0.061 g end of gravidity. -During the lactation period size of epiphysis is on the average 111.4 cmm, weight 0.07 g. -In castrated ewes, during the first 30 days after castration the size of epiphysis increases from 125.4 cmm to 136.5 cmm, and after 6 months it goes down to 90.9 cmm. The weight of epiphysis of castrated ewes does not vary after 6 months and is on the average 0.07 g. - The epiphysis of lambs aged 24 days has an average size of 35.3 cmm, and the weight 0.02 g. At 110 days of age, epiphysis size on the average 79.4 cmm, weight 0.05 g. There are no changes of size and weight of epiphysis in ewes aged, on the average, 200 days.
