Effects of cooked or canned food on the concentration of Ca, P, Na, K and Fe in the blood serum were investigated in 24 dogs (12 males and 12 females) of Yugoslav Shepherd Dog breed originating from the mountain of Sara (Yugoslavia) during their 25-day training. Blood samples were taken immediately before and after training and on days 1,10 and 20 of training. All dogs aged 10-12 months of age. Average concentrations of Ca, P, Na, K and Fe in the blood serum of both groups during training were within normal physiological limits and ranged from 2.34-2.95 or 2.39-3.04 mmol/l (Ca), 1.38-1.85 or 1.57-1.88 mmol/l (P), 152.92-160.42 or 20.83-34.73 mmol/l (Fe). A certain significance of average concentration differences for Ca, P, Na, K and Fe was established within and between the groups in relation to elements concentrations before and after training or on days 1, 10 and 20 of training or the loth day after training.
