Effect of different final weights on the performances of young fattening cattle of Holstein and domestic [Yugoslav] Pied breed

In order to compare the performances of Holstein and Domestic (Yugoslav) Pied fattening cattle slaughtered at different live weights, an experiment has been carried out, and on the basis of the results obtained the following conclusions may be inferred: The average daily live weight gains were more favourable in both breeds at lower live weights. Young bulls of Domestic Pied breed achieved higher gains, by 94 and 69 g, respectively, but the differences were not statistically significant. Young Domestic Pied cattle consumed some more feeds, but the feed conversion did not differ considerably. Animals of Domestic Pied breed had relatively higher weight of head and hide, while Holstein bulls had heavier internal organs and fat. Domestic Pied cattle achieved some higher dressing percentage.
