The paper presents the results of radiation-hygienic studies of the environment of northeastern Serbia, without the territory of the Province of Vojvodina (Yugoslavia). In 1987/1988, samples of the soil, grass, hay, corn, wheat, and potatoes were taken and the activity levels of basic radiation units (ORV) were determined in them. On the basis of the performed comparative analysis, we came to conclusions about the actual levels of activity for the chosen samples from the environment and food chain. Furthermore, we actualized the so-called zero radiation condition for the environment of the region of the town of Zajecar.
