Effects of cowdung on the plankton production in the nursery ponds [in Bangladesh]

Results of studies on the application of cowdung for production of plankton in the nursery ponds are presented. Fresh cowdung was weekly applied to a group of nursery ponds of 0.033 ha each at 2500, 5000 and 10000 kg/ha. An abundant growth of both phyto-and zoo-plankton was observed in the treated ponds, Plankton production was significantly higher in manure-loaded ponds. Application of cowdung at 10,000 kg/ha had adverse effects on the survival rate of fish fry.
