Response of BR11 rice to 15N-labelled azolla and urea incorporated in boro season [in Bangladesh]
1991
Mian, M.H.
The grain yield of BR11 rice was increased by 31, 27 and 32% over the control due to incorporation of 64-65, 60 and 60 kg N ha-(1) as Azolla (2 splits-0 and 60 DT), urea (similar 2 splits) and urea (3 best splits), respectively, in Boro season of 1939. The corresponding increases in N uptake in grains were 51-53 49- 52 and 55%, respectively, over the control. Straw showed a similar yield and N uptake pattern. Both yield and N uptake were higher due to Azolla incorporation compared to urea incorporation. The 15N tracer showed an uptake of 40-48, 41-46 and 50% of 15N incorporated as Azolla (2 splits), urea (2 splits) and urea (3 best splits), respectively. Overall, the response of BR11 rice to Azolla, and urea application at an equal N-rate was comparable, Azolla being rather better.
