This paper attempts to determine and describe the extent of job performance of the Subject Matter Officers working in the Department of Agricultural Extension and to explore the relationships of three selected training variables (number of in-service training, duration of in-service training and in- service intensity) with job performance. Data were collected by interviewing process from a sample of 114 SMOs of 22 randomly selected Districts of Bangladesh. Computed job performance indices (JPIs) for the three job performance components (training-related tasks 6052, visit-related tasks 3829 and job- related other tasks 6359) against the maximum possible index to 1140 indicate that performance in each of the three components was low, but visit-related tasks were by far the least performed. Overall job performance of the SMOs had medium overall job performance, while 12 percent had low performance and 5 percent high. Out of the three training variables, only in-service training intensity had significant positive relationship with job performance.
