CYCLOXYDIM (200 g/l EC, tradename FOCUS, LASER, STRATOS) is a systemic graminicide for the postemergence control of annual and perennial grass weeds. CYCLOXYDIM exhibits excellent selectivity in basically all broadleaf crops, regardless of the growth stage of the crop. CYCLOXYDIM is rapidly taken up by the green plant tissue and translocated to the meristemic tissue, which is advantageous with regard to systemic activity and rainfastness. Higher temperatures enhance initial activity and speed of action. The best timing for annual grass weeds is from the 2-leaf stage up to the end of tillering and for perennial grass weeds at height of 15-20 cm. Grass species react differently towards cycloxydim which has to be taken into account when choosing the application rate for efficient control: Annual grasses like Setaria spp., Echinochloa spp., Digitaria spp., Lolium spp., Avena fatua and Alopecurus myosuroides, voluntary cereals will be efficiently controlled with 0,2 - 0,3 kg a.i/ha + additive whereas perennial grasses like Agropyron repens and Sorghum halepense require 0,4 - 0,6 kg a.i/ha + additive. A more recent development of FOCUS is FOCUS ULTRA, a ready formulation containing 100 g/l cycloxydim + the necessary additive. FOCUS resp. STRATOS or LASER are products registered in a number of European countries including Belgium.
