Alkaloid production of Hyoscyamus reticulatus plant and transformed root culture clone
1992
Jonkova, I. (Instutut po Farmakologiya i Farmatsiya, Sofia (Bulgaria))
Systematic studies were carried out on Hyoscyamus reticulatus (Solanaceae) individual plants and transformed root clones in order to analyse the variation in the contents of the tropane alkaloids. The normal roots of H. reticulatus showed the highest level of alkaloid production but low amount of scopolamine. During different growth periods the maximal foliar scopolamine content was before flowering of normal plants. The changes in the content of both main alkaloids in plants were greater in the leaves than in the roots during 3 different growth periods. In the plants hyoscyamine is the major alkaloid. In contrast hairy root cultures produced the highest level of scopolamine.
