[Effect of sunflower achene size on germination, vigour and initial plant growth]

The effect of four sunflower achene sizes on the germination, vigour and initial plant growth was studied. Leaf area and plant weight, 11 and 22 days after emergence, were measured under field conditions. Germination percentage, plant height, and plant weight, were evaluated under growth chamber conditions. The two largest achene sizes originated plants with significant higher values of leaf area and dry weight. Germination percentage and plant height did not present statistical differences
