Experimental results have shown that the fodder production intensity can be improved in degraded grassland. However, durability of additionally sown crops and the overall effect are conditioned by selection of suitable cultivars of clover and grass species as well as N fertilization. Tetraploid meadow clover cultivars were represented at a higher level in the stand as compared with creeping clover cultivars. Also, the durability of tetraploid cultivars was found higher. Their representation in the 3rd year reached 12.8 to 19.4 percent. Yields from stands with aftersown Trifolium repens cultivars were 8-8,5 t.ha-1 of dry matter (DM), in tetraploid Trifolium pratense 9,8-10 t.ha-1 of dry matter. Additional sowing resulted in savings of 120 kg N per grassland hectare. Production of DM from cocksfoot stands was 45,2 kg, in stands with supplementary sown Trifolium repens cultivars - 68 kg, and with Trifolium pratense - 73 kg per kg of net NPK nutrients.
