In the framework of a programme of collective breeding of a synthetic variety of lucerne, performed on 11 research and breeding stations with the aim to take advantage of climatic and genetic diversity of basic breeding material, the performance of clone progenies after a polycross was studied. The polycross was laid out with 30 clones and with 9 clones selected out of them. The performance trials of clone progenies were laid out on 5 and 6 sites in two chronologically shifted series were evaluated by means of appropriate models of analysis of variance, respecting yield of green matter and of seed in individual harvest years and cuts. The following conclusions could be formulated: The yield of green matter was influenced by experimental sites and years. Significant differences among progenies were proved, especially in the first cut. More efficient progenies than the control variety Palava were found, especially in seed yield. In spite of a considerable interaction of progenies with sites, the progenies retained conforming sequence. With a higher number of components inserted in the polycross a higher performance of progenies was attained. A better perspective was proved with the selection for seed rather than for green matter.
