Evaluation of gilts in selection breeding of White Improved breed

In analysing the selection work within one selection breeding, 900 gilts (White Improved breed) were evaluated and classified by a performance test. The gilts came from 72 sows and 30 boars. The analysis included following 15 data for each daughter: number of sire, number of dam, litter size and litter sequence, results of own performance test (average daily gain and back-fat thickness determined by ultrasonic measurement), own performance index (assignment to selection or reproduction breeding, causes of culling gilts from breeding), gilt weight, body conformation score, performance and market date of sire. Our results did not reflect the effect of dam's litter size on their performance. The relation between culling causes and gilts performance was not confirmed
