Time study of beech wood decay under forest conditions

The weight loss was studied for beech logs of about 1.5 m. long, which were felled in several seasons and remained in the forest for 12 to 28 months. The logs were soon after felling attacked by several wood roting fungi. The biggest weight loss, which show and the degree of decay, it was observed during the periods between July-November, and the most less during November-March. Therefore the felling of beech wood must be done during winter time and the timber has to be transferred out of the forest not later than the end of May. Decay can be continued in the places of storage, if the wood is not dried.
