Soils and fertilizer management on the Soesdyke Linden Highway
1991
Livan, M.A. (National Agricultural Research Institute Mon Repos (Guyana))
Three types of soils are recognised on the Soesdyke Linden Highway. These are sands, organic soils and sandy loams. Sands and sandy loams are excessively drained acid sandy soils low in natural fertility. They become droughty under clean cultivation and are very prone to erosion. They have little organic matter in the first 2 cm of soil and low moisture and nutrient holding capacity. Because of the soil particle size, movement of water and nutrient down the profile is very rapid. Document discuss management of these soils using natural and chemical fertilizers.
