Analysis of the effect conditions of burning, smoke filtration and filter additives from the aspect of economy and protection of health

Laboratory tests were carried out with a mineral clay of "Deriton" fantasy name, produced in Hungary, with bentonite, yellow prussiate of potash and aluminium oxide as absorbents. The efficiency against alkaloids and tar of a filter treated with the above absorbents was compared to the efficiency of American, Japanese and Belgian filters treated with active carbon. The tar content of the filters was in the case of Deriton 20.3, of yellow prussiate of potash 18.8, of bentonite 10.9 and of aluminium oxide 20.2 mg per cigarette, while in the case of plain double filter 25.3, of Japanese active carbon treated double filter 21.6, of Belgian active carbon treated filter 23.0 mg per cigarette. At the same time the resistance to air and whiff number did not shift in an unfavourable direction. The sensory value of smoke did not change, while its strength decreased. In a pilot plant production, Deriton proved to be the most favourable additive. Costs were reduced by half and it rendered imports superfluous
