[Selection of aluminium tolerant varieties of corn]
1988
Gayatri | Subandi
Tolerant aluminum corn varieties are preferable under acid soil condition. That is mostly found in red yellow podzolic soils. Specific characteristics of this soil is having low pH, very low P content and very high aluminum exchange capacity. One way to obtain corn varieties that are tolerant to aluminum is through selection. The scope of the research is to study the relationship between aluminum tolerance and yield or other agronomic characters under recurrent selection process. The research will be conducted in the Laboratorium and in the field. The quantitative characters that will be observed in the recurrent selection are : number of plant at 10 days, plant aspect, plant height (cm), ear height (cm), silking days (days), maturity (days), and yield (ton/ha). After several times recurrent selection can be expected to find a variety that is tolerant to aluminum toxicity
