Effects of N, P and K on yield and quality of sugar beet
1992
Herlihy, M. (Teagasc, Johnstown Castle Research Centre, Wexford (Ireland))
The effects of N,P and K on yield and quality of sugar beet are described for a range of sites of varying fertility indices or yield-response categories and, in the case of N, for a range of year-to-year variations in weather conditions. The mean fertiliser-N optima for sugar yield were 150, 121, 83 and 44 kg ha-1 for soil-N indices 1 to 4, respectively, and for each index category the corresponding responses to N were 1.82, 1.37, 0.73 and 0.18 t ha-1 of sugar. Within index categories, however, the N requirement for different criteria varied widely. For example, within index 1 the maximum N for root yield was 206 kg ha-1, whereas optima for yields of sugar and extractable sugar were 150 and 138 kg ha-1, respectively.
