This paper describes a project on small-scale fisheries which employs a comparative approach, several case studies including Jamaica and Barbados from the Caribbean among others are described. The objective is to find out how small-scale fisheries work; the conditions under which traditional, community-based management is successful, and what are the conditions under which it is not. The extent of self-regulation and the choice of fishery regulation policies and conservation are some other questions the study seeks to answer.
