Optimum volume of spray application for the control of coffee leaf rust
1991
Maithia, A.S.K.
In Kenya, wide ranges of high (1000-2240 l/ha) and low(10-280 l/ha) volumes of spray application have been used in an attempt to control coffee leaf rust caused by the fungus (Hemileia vastratix). A field trial was conducted for three consecutive years 1983-1985 to determine the efficacy of controlled droplet application in controlling coffee leaf rust. Copper Nordox 50 WP at the rate of 7.7kg/ha was either suspended or applied in volumes of 100 l/ha - 600 l/ha which yielded concentrations of 7.7 to 1.28 consecutively. Leaf rust infection peak was reduced significantly and coffee yields increased. Chemical concentrations appeared to play a major role compared to spray volume in the overall leaf rust control.
