A study of constitution of persimmon [Diospyros kaki] "Izu"

The study was conducted in regard to the change in the yield of Izu (Japanese persimmon CV) planted and cultivated in the field and the primary factors thereof over five years from 1980 to 1984. The tree used in this investigation had trunk circumferences well reflecting investigation items considered to constitute a yield such as the number of harvested fruits, a tree width, a tree volume, the number of leaves, the number of fruiting base branches, the number of fruiting branches of the like and were divided into high yield trees, medium yield trees and low yield trees. The proper ratio of leaves and fruits was judged to be 20-25 when the reference of the fruiting amount of Izu was set to the number of fruit corresponding to 15-20% of total flower-bud appearing numbers. From the dissecting investigation of the trees used in this study, the low yield tree was reduced in its oil material part of 11 years old or more as compared with medium and high yield trees and it was judged that the growth at the initial stage of planting had been probably inferior. From the foregoing result, in order to stabilize the yield of Izu, it is considered to be important that the growth of trees has increased and crown enlarged at the stage of a young tree
