Preliminary results on rooting of cuttings of almon, red lauan, mayapis, tanguile, apitong and white lauan

Cuttings from 60- to 65-day old coppice of almon (Shorea almon), red lauan (S. negrosensis), mayapis (S. palosapis), tanguile (S. polysperma), apitong (Dipterocarpus grandiflorus), and white lauan (S. contorta) were treated with various concentrations and combinations of different rooting hormones (6000 ppm IBA, 8,000 ppm IBA, commercially prepared Rootone -F, 8,000 ppm IAA + 6,000 ppm IBA, and 7,000 ppm IAA + 7000 ppm IAA + 7,000 ppm IBA). A control (no rooting hormone) was also provided per dipterocarp species. Red lauan and mayapis showed the highest rooting percentage of 63 and 41 percent, respectively when treated with 6,000 ppm IBA. There was no significant difference among the different treatments used in almon (54 per cent to 58 per cent). Due to the limited number of coppice, no replications were made for apitong, tanguile and white lauan, experiments. Nevertheless, tanguile produced the highest rooting percentage (33.33 per cent) when treated with 6,000 ppm IBA, and 8,000 ppm IBA. White lauan, on the other hand produced the maximum number of rooted cuttings (15 percent) when treated with 8,000 ppm IAA + 6,000 ppm IBA. Apitong did not develop roots in all treatments used.
