Observation of the Burley type intervarietal hybrids of tobacco

The domestic cultivar Burley Skroniowski 70 was crossed with the cultivar S-61 of German origin and the hybrids evaluated for their suitability to be used as a starting breeding material. The F1 and F2 hybrids differed from the parental cultivars with a higher growth rate and a faster development at the early growth stages until flowering. Hybrids which involved Burley Skroniowski as the maternal parent were taller than their parents
