Genetics, alien incorporation, intergenomic recombination, and biotechnology

Among numerous approaches to understanding the genetic potential of triticale, the direct comparison of triticale to its wheat and rye parents reveals much about the limitations of triticale for a number of key characters. This session looks at ways of overcoming these limitations by 1) using aneuploid analysis to re-interpret the basis of gene expression for a number of key characters; 2) examining the effects of chromosome substitution, translocation and alien chromosome addition/substitution on gene expression, and (3) evaluating current options in biotechnology especially with reference to novel or modified gene expression
