Two hundred and forty groundnut lines from 10 different sources were tested for either rust or leaf spot resistance in two separate disease nurseries. This year the chemicals used in the rust nursery was not at all effective resulting in the predominant outbreak of Phaeoisariopsis personata in both nurseries. Black spot score of 6.75 or lower was noted on 33 lines, whereas 8.5-8.85 was recorded on Tainan 9. In general, the scores assessed on lines tested in the rust nursery were comparable to the corresponding scores obtained from the leaf spot nursery. The larger differences noted on KUP24D-248 W and ICG(FDRS)-30 were thought to be a synergistic effect of genotypic resistance and efficacy of the fungicides applied in the rust nursery.
