Studies on parasitic infection in native chickens in the Northeast [Thailand]

Sixty-seven 3-4-month-old native chickens from Khon Kaen, Nong Khai, Loei, Sakhon Nakhon, Ubon Ratchathani, Si Sa Ket and Surin were examined for the parasites. The following results were obtained.; Ectoparasites were Megninia sp. 59.70 % Echinophaga gallinacea 7.46 %, Menopon sp. 4.48 % and Goniodes sp. 4.48 %.; Nematodes were Oxyspirura mansoni 82.09 %, Ascaridia galli 77.61 %, Heterakis gallinarum 64.18 %, Gongylonema sp. 29.85 %, Tetrameres sp.16.42 %, Capillaria obsignata 11.94 % and Acuaria sp. 8.96 %.; Cestodes were Raillietina echinobothrida, Raillietina tetragona, Raillietina cesticillus, Hymenolepis sp. and Amoebotaenia cuneata 88.06 %.; Trematodes were Prosthogonimus sp. 23.88 % and Echinostoma revolutum 1.49 %; Blood parasite was Leucocytozoon sabrazesi 31.34 %.
