Soil and fertilizer studies on corn

All the corn cultivars gave comparable response on grain yields to soil fertility. KTX 2602 was comparable to KDX 2901 and Suwan 1 was comparable to KS 4 in grain yield production. The hybrids gave higher grain yields than the two composite varieties. P-fertilizer rate showed significant effects only on age of plant at 50 % harvest of young ears and sweetness of young ear juice. The former decreased with P-fertilizer upto the highest rate while the latter increased with P-fertilizer and began to reach the plateau at the rate of 40 kg./ha. N-fertilizer at the rate that provides maximum vegetative growth is recommendable. Results did not provide information on recommendable rate of P-fertilizer. Cumulative effects of N-P fertilizer decreased grain yields of soybean and mungbean grown in rotation but tended to increase grain yield of peanut grown in rotation. Grain yields of intercrop mungvean and peanut were reduced by cumulative effects of N-P fertilizer but the yield of intercrop soybean only showed a trend. Grain and stover yields of corn increased with increased rate of N-fertilizer and began to reach the plateau at about 60 kg. N/ha. The highest rate of fertilizer tended to show depressive effects. Urea and ammonium sulfate gave statistically comparable grain and stover yields though the former tended to give lower figures at the rates lower than 120 kg. N/ha. but generally tended to give higher figure than the latter at the rate of 120 kg. N/ha. or higher.
