Selection of effective VA Mycorrhiza species for phosphorus uptake in groundnut

To select effective VA mycorrhiza (VAM) species for groundnut. Six best sporulating VAM species selected from glasshouse conditions were used in the field trials at Chiangmai and Kalasin under two phosphorus fertilizer treatments. A split plot design with 4 replicates was used in the study. Main plots were two phosphorus fertilizer treatments, namely, no phosphorus fertilizer application and phosphorus fertilizer application in the form of rock phosphate (150 kg rock phosphate/rai). Subplots comprised of 6 VA mycorrhiza species plus an uninoculated control. No significant difference was observed among the inoculated treatments in terms of plant height, dry weight percent root colonization and number of spores in soil at both locations. Pod yields at Kalasin were significantly different among the inoculated treatments but not at Chiangmai. Groundnut inoculation with ETU 31, MOS 6, Glomus 17, ASCR 22 and DES 39 resulted in pod yield increment over the uninoculated control by 23, 22, 20, 17 and 11 %, respectively.
