Natural reproduction of herbivorous fish Ctenopharyngodon idella and Hypophthalmichthys molitrix in the Djerdap accumulations (Danube river, Yugoslavia)

Research project entitled "Investigations of ecosystem of the Djerdap accumulation (Serbia, Yugoslavia), measures of protection and rational exploitation" (Protection and improvement of living environment in Serbia, Yugoslavia, 1991-1995) also includes examinations of natural reproduction of both autochtonous and allochtonous fish species under conditions of the Djerdap accumulations. During August of 1991 at the starting point of the lake part of the "Djerdap 1" accumulation (Veliko gradiste, km 1069) in the Danube river bank region at one locality 500 individuals of one year old Ctenopharyngodon idella and Hypophthalmichthys were caught. This indicates natural reproduction and complete adaptation of these allochtonous fish to altered living conditions.
