Effect of genotype and age of seedling on compatible reaction between chickpea and agrobacterium rhizogenes

The response of different chickpea genotypes inoculated with agrobacterium rhizogenes strains was assessed. Adventitious roots developed from the wounded sites infected with the virulent strain of A. rhizogenes. Frequency of adventitious root formation, number of roots per infected plant and root length varied widely among genotypes. Ten-day-old seedlings were the most responsive with 85- 100% of the plants producing roots. Genotype 6153 showed maximum response.
