Straw based ration for dairy cows: an economic analysis [in Bangladesh]

The effect of straw based ration on milk yield and body weight was examined. Results showed that the average milk yield reduced but body weight increased for dairy cows by feeding urea treated rice straw. Cost and return analysis showed that the overall effect of straw based ration on total income from milking cows was negative. The gain in body weight of Tk. 0.17 per cow per day was wear away by a loss of Tk. 3.85 per cow per day due to a decline in milk yield.
