Studies on peeling, drying and gluing of veneer and particle board of ten village tree species of Bangladesh

Ten village tree species, viz., mango (Mangifera indica), Neem (Azadirachta indica), Ghora neem (Melia azadirachta), jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus), Babla (Acacia nilotica), sissoo (Dalbergia sissoo), raintree (Samanea saman), and Tentul (Tamarindus indica) were studied for peeling, drying and gluing of veneer and making of particle board to find out their suitability for plywood sand particle board. Palita mandar, painnya mandar, and Ghoraneem peel easily. In pretreated condition Tentul peels easily. Mango, jackfruit, Ghoraneem and Tentul give the best quality veneer. Neem, sissoo, raintree and Painnya mandar yield medium quality veneer and Palita mandar and babla give poor quality veneer. Veneers on mango, jackfruit, sissoo and raintree dry and glue moderately; Ghoraneem, babla, Neem and Tentul dry slowly but glue easily; Palita mandar dry easily and glue moderately. For particle board manufacture jackfruit is found suitable, but mango, Neem, babla, sissoo, raintree, Painnya mandar, Goraneem and Tentul are moderately suitable and Palita mandar is less suitable.
