Economics of Mukhikachu [Colocasia esculenta] cultivation in Bangladesh

The study focuses the economic return of Mukhikachu at farm level. The average cost of production of Mukhikachu was observed to be Tk. 39815 per hectare when all variable costs were included and Tk 19435 when only cash costs were considered. The average yield of Mukhikachu was 13960 kg per hectare. The average gross margin was found to be Tk 15885 per hectare when all variable costs were deducted. The average benefit cost ratio was 1.40 and 2.86 on full-cost and cash-cost basis, respectively. Non-availability of modern variety, lack of storage facility, lack of credit facility, and insect pest attack were the major constraints to higher production of Mukhikachu.
